Bob Bogle
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
2005 Individual Award Winner


 

Bogle came to Centralia High School as Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach and Athletic Director for the 1983-84 school year. Upon leaving in 1993, he had accumulated a record of 189-93.  

He came to Centralia from his Alma Mater in Nashville. He won a Class A state basketball championship there in 1978 and left with a total record of 156-65 in eight seasons.

While at Centralia for ten seasons, he brought the Orphans to a South Seven Conference title in 1990, the first since 1980, and six consecutive Regional championships with two Sectional titles in 1988 (the first since 1966) and 1993. The Orphans garnered Centralia Holiday Tournament trophies in each of his ten seasons with tournament championships in 1986 (the first since 1964) and 1990.  

Bogle accumulated 51 wins in three seasons at Pekin after leaving Centralia. His career win total of 396 gives him an average of nearly nineteen wins per season. 

In 2002, he was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame.

"Bob Bogle joined The University of Tulsa in September 2008 as the Director of High School Relations. He is a veteran high school coach in Illinois with 21 years of head coaching experience.

Bogle taught 31 years in high school before retiring in 2004. He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame with an overall record of 396-189, including a state Class A Championship in 1978. He coached at Nashville, Centralia and Pekin High Schools in Illinois.

Before entering the teaching and coaching ranks, Bogle served two years of active duty in the Army as an officer. He earned both a bachelor's and master's degree from Murray State (Ky.) in 1970 and 1971, respectively."
