Jimmie Evers
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
1981 Individual Award Winner


 

Jimmie Evers was the Centralia High School Coach in multiple sports for many years. From 1951 to 1959, his basketball had a record of 184-75, and from 1951  to 1966 his football teams accumulated a record of 111-35-7.  As track coach, 1942-1967, his teams were nearly unbeatable in Southern Illinois, winning eight District and 18 Conference titles.

In 1978 the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association inducted Evers as a charter member of their Hall of Fame as well as the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. 

In 2009 Coach Evers was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by Centralia High School.  The following is the information included on his award which hangs on the walls of the new Centralia High School:

Graduated-BS Ed from Eastern Illinois College

Graduated-MS from Southern Illinois University

Lettered at CTHS in 3 major sports

Served as Educator, Coach, Athletic Director at
Centralia High School and Kaskaskia College

Served as Coach at Centralia Township High School
for football, basketball and track

Served on Board of Directors of
the National High School Coaches Association

Elected to IHSA Football Hall of Fame

Elected to IHSA Basketball Hall of Fame

Inducted to Centralia Sports Hall of Fame

The current Evers Field was named in his honor
