Tyrone Jones
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
2004 Individual Award Winner


 

Jones was a two-time NCAA Track All-American at the University of Illinois. He also received four U of I varsity letters as he was a four-time Big Ten track champion and placed in sixteen Big Ten track events.

His All-American honors came in 1998 (4 x 400m relay, 2nd place, indoor), and 2000 (4 x 400m relay, 7th place, indoor).

The four Big Ten championships came in the 4 x 400m relay - indoor (1998, 1999, 2000) and the distance medley relay - indoor (1998).

Jones is currently ranked in four events at the U of I: #10 indoor 400m (47.77), #9 indoor 600m (1:19.89), #12 outdoor 400m (46.88), and #2 indoor 4 x 400m relay (3:07.4).

While at the U of I, he was a two-time George Huff award winner and was named academic All-Big Ten twice. In 2000, he was selected as a GTE/CoSIDA academic All-American.
