Lance Marcum
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
2013 Individual Award Winner

Whether it be on the baseball diamond or on the basketball court, there was little this 2002 CHS graduate failed to accomplish.

As a senior, Marcum was the ace of the pitching staff on the '02 baseball team which posted a 29-5 record, a mark that included a 10-0 showing in the South Seven Conference. In that senior season, the right-hander tossed no-hitters against Freeburg as well as Cahokia.

Following high school, Marcum went to McKendree College (now McKendree University) in Lebanon. Rewriting many of the program's pitching records, Marcum set career records for the programs in wins (38), complete games (38), shutouts (11), strikeouts (361) and innings pitched (377 2/3). Marcum was named an NAIA All-American following the 2005 and '06 seasons and later signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals, pitching one season in the St. Louis chain.

As a member of the 2002 CHS basketball team, Marcum was named the South Seven Conference's Most Valuable Player, as he helped guide the Orphans to a 27-6 record and to a third-place trophy in the IHSA Class 2A State Tournament. Marcum left one final mark on the program in the third-place game against New Trier as he drained six 3-pointers in scoring 28 points in the Centralia victory.

Marcum also earned MVP honors as a senior in the Quincy Thanksgiving Tournament as well as the Centralia Holiday Tournament, where the Orphans took second to Peoria Richwoods.
