Rick Shipley
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
2001 Individual Award Winner


 

He graduated in 1987 from Centralia High School with 1196 career points as a three year starter in basketball. In the Lion's Club All Star Game at Rend Lake College he scored 24 points and had 21 rebounds.  Shipley also played in the Illinois-Wisconsin All Star Game.  The 1987 team was 20-7 on the year and won the Centralia Holiday Tournament (1986) for the first time since 1964. 

He was named first team All-Tournament. Shipley received the Salem Tournament MVP award as Centralia captured the title, and he was also named South Seven Conference MVP. 

He was named to the Southern Illinois Coaches’ Association Class AA All-Star Team. He played in the IBCA all-star game after his senior season, and was named UPI second team All-State. 

Shipley was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2003.

In a four year basketball career at SIU-C, he amassed 1,356 points and 983 rebounds (5th all-time). He had 122 starts in 127 appearances (tying a record for appearances). His teams won 12, 20, 26, and 18 games with three consecutive NIT appearances. 

He was inducted into the SIU Hall of Fame in 2006.
