Lowell Spurgeon
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
1981 Individual Award Winner


 

He received 12 varsity letters at Centralia High School. In doing so, he was named First-Team All-State in football in 1932 and 1933. His #13 is retired at CHS. 

He holds school records of career points (297) and career touchdowns (45). Lowell was also named First-Team All-State in basketball in 1933 and 1934. 

He won four state prep track championships:  Long Jump 1933, 22’7”; 1934, 23’7 3/4” (state record); High Jump 1933, 6’5 1/8” (state meet record for 24 years); 1934, 6’3”. He held the CHS long jump record of 23’10 3/4” from 1934 to 1984.  

He received three letters each in football and track at the University of Illinois and was football captain in 1937.
