Howard Stansell
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
1992 Individual Award Winner

A 1931 graduate of Centralia High School, he was state champion in the long jump with a record leap of 23’ 3 1/2”. That record stood until 1934 when it was broken by Centralia’s own Lowell Spurgeon.

Stansell held District records in the long jump and low hurdles and recorded the best time ever at CHS in the 220 hurdles (25.0), an event no longer contested.

He capped off his brilliant high school career by placing second in the long jump at the Amos Alonso Stagg National Interscholastic Track and Field Meet at the University of Chicago.
