The 1970 CHS Boys Cross Country Team captured 6th place (of 26 teams) at the one-class IHSA state meet with a score of 221 points. Individual placers at the state meet were: Charlie Simpson 28th, Mike Heitkamp 30th, Rich Glenn 31st, Paul Reynolds 32nd, Dan Bledsoe 100th, Ben Reynolds 151st, and Mike Pryor 148th.

Centralia was one of the two teams outside the Chicago area to finish in the top eleven teams. At the
District meet, they were first of 17 teams with 21 points and took the Sectional title being first of nine teams with 21 points.  

They were also South-Seven Conference champions (running without Paul Reynolds who had a hip injury). Other meet highlights for the season were finishing second of 42 teams at the Mattoon Invitational, and fourth of 39 teams at the Peoria Invitational.
