John Abrams
The Centralia Sports Hall of Fame
2009 VIP Award Winner


 

John Abrams was a member of the original Centralia Sports Hall of Fame selection committee serving from 1981 until his passing in 1993.

After graduating from Centralia Township High School in 1941, where he played varsity football his Junior and Senior years, he enlisted in the Marine Corp and served three years in the South Pacific. After his release, he played baseball and managed teams for the Moose Lodge. He refereed many basketball games at the community center for Howard Cooksey and later managed Little League games. Abrams was a dedicated Orphan sports fan.

He was married to Marjorie (Johnson) for over 51 years and they had two sons John Alan and Ken. 

The Centralia High School Baseball Annual Batting Champion Award is named in memory of John Alan.  John Alan was a member of CHS baseball teams of 1962, ‘63, ‘64 and was lost in service to our country.
